Biofuels Obligation Scheme

The National Oil Reserves Agency (NORA) has been nominated to administer the Biofuels Obligation Scheme which commenced on 1 July 2010. NORA has engaged Consultants (a consortium of Byrne Ó Cléirigh and LHM Casey McGrath – with BÓC as the lead consultant) to assist in administering the Scheme.


The following legislation was approved by the Government in June 2010:

Energy (Biofuel Obligation and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2010

S.I. 322 of 2010 - Energy (Biofuel Obligation and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2010 (Commencement of Certain Provisions) Order 2010

S.I. 356 of 2010 - National Oil Reserves Agency Act 2007 (Returns and Biofuel Levy) Regulations 2010

 

In December 2010 the following Regulation was also approved by the Government relating to the the Buy-out Charge:

On the 2nd February 2012, the Minister made the following Regulations - European Union (Biofuel Sustainability Criteria) Regulations 2012 (SI No. 33 of 2012):
